“What should I wear for our family session?”
“Do you have any suggestions for beach family photoshoots?”
“My husband doesn’t wear anything other than jeans.”
“I can’t get my kids to wear fancy clothes.”
Do any of these statements resonate with you? If so, then you’ve come to the right place.
More often than not, we complicate ourselves thinking we have to wear X or Y or look a certain way so the photos look Pinterest-worthy.
So let me ask you, who are you taking photos for?
What makes a photo perfect is the love you all share, so here are my tips:
1. Wear something that makes you feel confident and is comfortable.
But Claudia, “I love wearing hiking clothes” or “I can’t pull off a dress.” Darling, do you! If you are wearing clothes that make you self-conscious, you’re going to be worried about how you look instead of enjoying the moment.
That worry will come through on your photos, and we don’t want that.
2. Let’s talk about color!
Bring them on! A family beach photoshoot is a great place to show your color personality!
Pastel, neutral or vibrant as long as it matches your family.
When I do photoshoots at the beach, I always suggest a few color palettes easy to find on Pinterest.
Earth tones, coral palette, and sunset are my favorite.
3. To match or not to match, that is the question.
Instead of trying to match each other, try to wear clothes that complement one another. For example, dark blue, white, and soft pink go great together.
4. What not to do at a family beach photoshoot or any session.
Large prints or words, and graphics on shirts or trousers are a photographer’s worst nightmare (at least for me), and they don’t look great on the photo.
Are you getting paid to advertise?? Then don’t do it please!!!
Another big “no-no”: neon colors, especially on kids’ clothing.
If you are lost, they are a great way to get the attention of the search and rescue team, but it’s an eyesore for the camera.

Whatever you decide, keep it simple!
